DRUG INFORMATION ROUNDS

OBJECTIF: Évaluer l'efficacité et l'innocuité des vaccins viraux anti-influenza chez une population d'enfants asthmatiques.

MÉTHODOLOGIE: Recherche informatisée, dans la banque de données MEDLINE, d'articles publiés entre les mois de mai 2002 et mars 2003. Mots clés utilisés: asthme, exacerbation, enfants, vaccins, et influenza.

RÉSULTATS: Plusieurs croyances non fondées, à savoir que les vaccins viraux anti-influenza peuvent exacerber les crises d'asthme, font en sorte que certains enfants asthmatiques ne bénéficient pas de l'immunisation contre l'influenza. Plusieurs études ont été menées afin de déterminer (1) l'effet de l'influenza chez les enfants ayant un haut risque de complications à ce virus, (2) l'innocuité des vaccins anti-influenza, et (3) leur efficacité en présence d'un traitement systémique de glucocorticoïdes.

CONCLUSIONS: Les vaccins viraux anti-influenza testés semble être efficaces et leur utilisation sécuritaire dans une population d'enfants asthmatiques.
