DRUG INFORMATION ROUNDS

OBJECTIF: Évaluer l'utilisation de stimulants respiratoires dans le traitement de la maladie pulmonaire obstructive chronique (MPOC).

SOURCE DES DONNÉES: Des recherches dans MEDLINE (1966–juillet 2003) et EMBASE (1980–troisième trimestre 2003) ont été réalisées avec des mots-clés appropriés.

SYNTHÈSE DES DONNÉES: Les essais cliniques retenus évaluaient les paramètres de ventilation de patients atteints de MPOC ayant reçu de l'acétazolamide et/ou de la médroxyprogestérone. Tous les essais ont démontré une amélioration des paramètres de ventilation sans augmenter la survie ou la qualité de vie.

CONCLUSIONS: Des améliorations significatives dans les gaz sanguins artériels de même que dans les paramètres de ventilation ont été observées chez les patients recevant des traitements d'acétazolamide et de médroxyprogestérone. Cependant, la place de ces agents reste inconnue puisqu'ils n'améliorent ni la survie ni la qualité de vie.
