DRUG INFORMATION ROUNDS

OBJECTIF: Revoir la documentation scientifique portant sur l'utilisation du sumatriptan pour le traitement des migraines chez les femmes enceintes.

SOURCES D'INFORMATION: Recherche informatisée dans les banques de données MEDLINE (1966–septembre 2003) et International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (1970–septembre 2003).

RÉSUMÉ: La documentation scientifique décrivant l'utilisation du sumatriptan dans le traitement de la migraine durant la grossesse est évaluée et résumée dans cet article.

CONCLUSIONS: Le nombre limité de rapports d'utilisation du sumatriptan chez les femmes enceintes est insuffisant pour conclure et recommander d'emblée l'utilisation du sumatriptan pour le traitement des migraines chez la femme enceinte. Toutefois, l'évidence cumulée à ce jour démontre que le risque de tératogenèse associée avec l'utilisation du sumatriptan durant la grossesse n'est pas supérieur à celui de la population en général. Le sumatriptan devrait donc être administré aux femmes enceintes uniquement si les bénéfices anticipés sont supérieurs aux risques possibles pour le foetus.
