DRUG INFORMATION ROUNDS

OBJECTIF: Evaluer la documentation scientifique pour déterminer l'efficacité des statines dans la prévention de la néphropathie.

SOURCES D'INFORMATION: Recherche informatisée dans la banque de données MEDLINE (1966 à avril 2003) et celle de l'International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (1970 à avril 2003).

RÉSUMÉS: Bien que les statines soient largement utilisés pour la prévention des maladies conoraniens, leurs effets non-coronariens sont en voie d'investigation. Cinq études cliniques sont présentées dans cet article.

CONCLUSIONS: A l'heure actuelle, les statines ne peuvent être recommandées comme une stratégie reconnue pour prévenir la progression des maladies rénales mais elles peuvent toutefois être utilisées comme complément à ces thérapies pour les patients ayant une maladie coronarienne et rénale.
