DRUG INFORMATION ROUNDS

OBJECTIF: Evaluer l'efficacité de l'acétylcystéine par voie intraveineuse dans le traitement des insuffisances hépatiques aiguës non induites par le paracétamol.

REVUE DE LITTÉRATURE: Littérature repérée par des recherches sur MEDLINE (1966 à mars 2003), IPA (1970 à 2003), et Cochrane (2003, version 3). Mots-clés: acétylcystéine, insuffisance hépatique, insuffisance hépatique non induite par le paracétamol, intraveineux, traitement.

RÉSUMÉ: Les études identifiées sont de faibles effectifs et n'amènent pas de preuves déterminantes que l'acétylcystéine apporte un bénéfice à ce sous-groupe de patients. Des bénéfices microvasculaires régionaux ont été notés mais les résultats cliniques n'ont pas été étudiés.

CONCLUSIONS: L'acétylcystéine par voie intraveineuse ne devrait pas être utilisée en routine dans les insuffisances hépatiques non induites par le paracétamol. D'autres études de grands effectifs sont nécessaires pour évaluer les résultats cliniques.
