PHARMACOEPIDEMIOLOGY

OBJECTIF: Expliquer la nomenclature et les outils nécessaires à l'interprétation de la documentation scientifique qui décrit les bénéfices et les risques associés à l'utilisation du médicament.

SOURCES D'INFORMATION: Tous les articles de littérature primaire identifiés par une recherche informatisée dans la banque de données MEDLINE (1990 à 2003) ont été évalués ainsi que certains articles de littérature secondaire jugés pertinents.

RÉSUMÉ: Tout médicament possède des risques et des bénéfices. Lors de l'élaboration d'un plan de soins pharmaceutiques, le pharmacien doit obligatoirement soupeser les bénéfices et les risques avant de formuler une recommandation thérapeutique. La documentation scientifique fait état des risques et des bénéfices associés à l'utilisation du médicament. Toutefois, il importe de savoir bien interpréter ces évidences médicales.
