DRUG INFORMATION ROUNDS

OBJECTIF: Evaluer l'emploi et les bénéfices des antiviraux oraux dans le traitement des récurrences d'herpès labial.

REVUE DE LITTÉRATURE: Littérature repérée par une recherche sur MEDLINE (1966 à août 2003). Mots-clés: aciclovir, famciclovir, valaciclovir, boutons de fièvre, herpès labial, HSV-1.

RÉSUMÉ: Les auteurs ont révisé 5 études contrôlées vs placebo et 2 études de comparaison de doses qui ont évalué l'emploi d'antiviraux oraux dans le traitement des récurrences d'herpès labial. Aucune étude ne comparait directement différents antiviraux. Les études ayant évalué l'efficacité d'antiviraux dans le traitement d'une infection chronique à HSV-1 n'ont pas été incluses.

CONCLUSIONS: Le traitement par antiviraux oraux réduit la durée des épisodes et de la douleur d'environ un jour. Cependant, cela n'empêche pas le développement des lésions. Les conséquences cliniques de ces résultats apparaissent relativement modestes.
