DRUG INFORMATION ROUNDS

OBJECTIF: Réviser les éléments de preuve pour l'emploi des statines en prévention secondaire chez les patients coronariens ayant des valeurs de LDL-cholestérol optimales ou sub-optimales.

REVUE DE LITTÉRATURE: Littérature repérée sur MEDLINE (1966 à Octobre 2003). Mots-clés: inhibiteurs de l'HMG-CoA réductase, statines, maladie coronarienne, post-infarctus du myocarde, et cholestérol.

RÉSUMÉ: Les essais de prévention secondaire incluant des sujets avec des valeurs de LDL-cholestérol optimales (<130 mg/dL) ou sub-optimales (<100 mg/dL) ont été examinés. Les premières études de prévention secondaire suggéraient un bénéfice moindre mais des essais plus récents remettent en cause cette conclusion.

CONCLUSIONS: L'emploi de statines en prévention secondaire chez des patients coronariens ayant des valeurs de LDL-cholestérol proches des valeurs cibles est controversée, mais des essais récents montrent des résultats encourageants.
