OBJECTIF: Présenter le cas d'une patiente victime d'une dépression secondaire à un traitement à l'interféron et traitée avec succès à l'aide de bupropion. Les auteurs présentent aussi une revue du traitement des symptômes dépressifs associés au traitement à l'interféron.

RÉSUMÉ DU CAS: Une femme de 43 ans, porteuse d'une hépatite C chronique, a présenté une dépression sévère attribuée à l'interféron. Le traitement à l'interféron n'a pas été interrompu, et la patiente a été traitée avec du bupropion à libération contrôlée. Une amélioration significative des symptômes dépressifs a été constatée et aucun effet indésirable ne s'est manifesté.

DISCUSSION: Des informations limitées suggèrent que l'interféron peut réduire la transmission sérotoninergique au système nerveux central. Plusieurs articles portent sur l'utilisation de bloqueurs sélectifs du recaptage de la sérotonine dans le traitement de la dépression induite par l'interféron. Cependant, des études contrôlées sont requises pour évaluer l'efficacité des antidépresseurs sérotoninergiques et noradrénergiques chez les patients traités à l'interféron et présentant des symptômes dépressifs.

CONCLUSIONS: Le bupropion à libération prolongée semble être bénéfique dans le traitement de la dépression induite par l'interféron.
