ONCOLOGY

CONTEXTE: Environ 45% à 60% des cancéreux utilisent des produits de santé naturels (PSN). Plusieurs pharmaciens rapportent avoir de la difficulté à bien conseiller ces patients sur l'utilisation des PSN.

OBJECTIF: Cette étude examine les perceptions des pharmaciens à l'égard des informations requises pour bien conseiller ces patients sur les PSN et propose une approche structurée d'enseignement aux patients.

MÉTHODOLOGIE: Une étude qualitative avec groupe de discussion formé de pharmaciens oeuvrant dans une organisation intégrée de soins pour cancéreux au Canada.

RÉSULTATS: Huit sessions de groupe de discussion ont été tenues à partir desquelles 6 catégories d'information sont ressorties: rôle du conseiller, évaluation des données probantes, évaluation de l'efficacité, évaluation de la toxicité, paramètres à surveiller, et éléments de conclusion. Une approche structurée d'enseignement a été développée à partir de ces informations.

CONCLUSIONS: Une approche structurée d'enseignement sur l'utilisation des PSN chez les patients atteints de cancer a été développée.
