Soins de Santé et Conscience Professionnelle: Une Situation Difficile

Les réponses du gouvernement et du public face aux récents articles publiés dans les médias au sujet de pharmaciens ayant refusé de remplir des prescriptions pour des raisons d'ordre moral peuvent altérer l'essence même des soins de santé. D'une part, un tel refus vis-à-vis un groupe spécifique de citoyens met en péril l'accès de tout citoyen aux droits prescrits par le premier Amendement de la Constitution. D'autre part, le fait de défendre aux professionnels de la santé d'agir selon leur conscience met les patients à risque de se faire soigner par des professionnels de la santé ne possédant pas les mêmes standards éthiques essentiels à la prestation de soins de qualité. Il nous appartient de définir de meilleures solutions pour maintenir, en toute légalité, l'accès aux médicaments de prescription sans pour autant demander aux professionnels de la santé de devenir complices dans la prestation de soins de santé qu'ils jugent immoraux.
