Incursion dans la Qualité des Médicaments: Comparaison de Comprimés de Simvastatine Provenant des États-Unis et du Canada Obtenus via Internet

MISE EN CONTEXTE: Il y a eu récemment beaucoup de débats aux États-Unis concernant l'importation de médicaments de pharmacies internet situées au Canada. La Food and Drug Administration et les fabricants américains affirment que l'importation de médicaments provenant de marchés internationaux pose un risque de santé pour les consommateurs. Selon la perception du public, les médicaments en provenance du Canada sont aussi sécuritaires que ceux vendus aux États-Unis.

OBJECTIF: Déterminer si les comprimés de simvastatine obtenus de fabricants génériques canadiens et obtenus par Internet sont comparables au point de vue de l'uniformité du contenu, une composante essentielle de la qualité du produit, par rapport au produit innovateur américain.

MÉTHODES: Des comprimés des 4 sources ont été obtenus et analysés en utilisant des techniques d'imagerie par spectroscopie infrarouge. Ces techniques sont employées pour détecter des défauts de fabrication.

RÉSULTATS: Des images numériques ont été créées afin de révéler la structure interne des comprimés. L'analyse de l'uniformité du contenu entre les 4 sources de comprimés n'a révélé qu'une faible différence marginale entre le produit innovateur américain et le produit générique canadien.

CONCLUSIONS: Les résultats suggèrent que les standards de fabrication sont comparables pour les produits testés dans le cadre de cette étude. Ces résultats peuvent avoir des répercussions cliniques, légales, et économiques qui doivent être prises en compte par les autorités compétentes afin de fixer des balises pour les consommateurs qui choisissent d'acheter des médicaments canadiens via l'Internet.
