Le Vaccin Quadrivalent Contre le Virus du Papillome Humain: Un Regard au-Delà des Chiffres

Abstract

Le vaccin quadrivalent contre le virus du papillome humain (VPH) a obtenu l'autorisation de commercialisation en 2006 pour la prévention du cancer du col utérin, de la vulve et du vagin causés par les sérotypes 16 et 18 du VPH et des condylomes génitaux causés par les sérotypes 6 et 11 du VPH. Il est aussi indiqué pour la prévention de lésions précancéreuses et dysplasiques causées par les sérotypes 6, 11, 16, et 18. Certains se questionnent sur le nombre de femmes et jeunes filles effectivement infectées par les sérotypes inclus dans le vaccin et l'efficience de celui-ci. On se questionne aussi sur l'efficacité du vaccin chez les filles et les jeunes femmes, l'impact sur la population en général, la durée de protection, de même que l'utilité de ce vaccin dans les pays en voie de développement. Tous ces facteurs doivent être pris en considération par les pharmaciens et les organisations professionnelles de pharmaciens. Afin de formuler des directives d'utilisation raisonnables, les pharmaciens et les autres professionnels de la santé devront engager des discussions avec les décideurs quant aux mérites et limites du vaccin, de même que sur son impact économique.
