Correction: eplerenone: a selective aldosterone receptor antagonist for patients with heart failure

Published Online, April 12, 2005. www.theannals.com, DOI 10.1345/aph.1E306a
In the recent review of eplerenone (2005;39:68-76), the second and third sentences of the second paragraph under "Mechanism of Action" should read, Both drugs block aldosterone binding through a competitive blockade of mineralocorticoid receptors. Eplerenone, which has an empiric formula of C24H30O6 and a molecular weight of 414.50 Da, was derived from spironolactone by adding a 9{alpha},11{alpha}-epoxy bridge and substituting a carbomethoxy group for the 7{alpha}-thioacetyl group on spironolactone (Figure 1). Also, the penultimate sentence of the first paragraph under "Dosage and Administration" should read, If the serum potassium level is ≥6 mEq/L, eplerenone should be withheld until the concentration decreases to <5.5 mEq/L.
