OBJETIVO: Informar el caso de un paciente con Enfermedad de Asperger el cual obtuvo una buena respuesta con aripiprazole.

RESUMEN: Un hombre de 34 años con Enfermedad de Asperger incapacitante a través de toda su vida y un historial de 20 años de fracasos en intervenciones psicoterapéuticas y farmacológicas, obtuvo una mejoría dramática de sus síntomas al prescribírsele aripiprazole.

DISCUSIÓN: Múltiples esfuerzos farmacológicos previos, a través de varios años, inclinados predominantemente a alterar la neurotransmisión serotonérgica y dopaminérgica, habían resultado infructuosos debido a la falta de tolerabilidad de efectos adversos, exacerbación de síntomas subyacentes, o falta de respuesta. Aripiprazole, con un perfil complejo de afinidades por diversos neurotransmisiores, ha producido cambios significativos en síntomas esenciales. Entre los efectos notados, se encuentra aumento en sociabilidad; aumento en autoconciencia; disminución en rigidez, ansiedad, e irritabilidad; disminución en la preocupación con intereses esotéricos circumscritos.

CONCLUSIONES: Síntomas, que hasta el momento habían resultado intratables en un hombre de 34 años con Enfermedad de Asperger, mejoraron con aripiprazole.
