DRUG INFORMATION ROUNDS

OBJETIVO: Evaluar la efectividad y seguridad de las vacunas de influenza en niños asmáticos.

FUENTES DE INFORMACIÓN: Se identificó la literatura realizando una búsqueda por MEDLINE (mayo 2002 a marzo 2003). Términos claves de la búsqueda incluyeron asma, exacerbación, niños, vacunas, e influenza.

SÍNTESIS: La preocupación de que la vacuna de influenza puede exacerbar ataques de asma ha desprovisto a los niños asmáticos de los beneficios de la inmunización. Investigadores han realizado estudios para determinar el efecto de la influenza en niños asmáticos, la seguridad de las vacunas de influenza, y su beneficio en la presencia de terapia con corticoesteroides en esta población.

CONCLUSIONES: Las vacunas de influenza estudiadas son seguras y efectivas en niños asmáticos.
