OBJETIVO: Evaluar desloratadina, un antihistamínico no sedante.

FUENTE DE DATOS: Una búsqueda de la literatura en MEDLINE se llevó a cabo (1966–julio 2002).

SELECCIÓN DE ESTUDIOS: Los artículos y extractos con pertinencia a desloratadina se consideraron para inclusión enfatizando en estudios aleatorios, controlados por placebo, y doble ciegos.

SÍNTESIS: Desloratadina está aprobada para síntomas asociados a rinitis alérgica estacional (SAR, por sus siglas en inglés), perenne (PAR, por sus siglas en inglés), y urticaria crónica idiopática (CIU, por sus siglas en inglés) para personas con 12 años de edad en adelante. En estudios controlados con placebo, desloratadina demostró eficacia superior usado 1 vez al día en el tratamiento de SAR, PAR, y CIU. Los datos sugieren que desloratadina posee actividad anti-inflamatoria y descongestionante.

CONCLUSIONES: Desloratadina parece ser un agente "yo también," sin diferencias mayores comparado con otros antihistamínicos de segunda generación.
