DRUG INFORMATION ROUNDS

OBJETIVO: Evaluar la literatura clínica en relación al uso de ivermectina para el tratamiento de infestación de sarna resistente a otros fármacos.

FUENTES DE INFORMACIÓN: Búsqueda bibliográfica de literatura clínica publicada entre 1966 y 2001 en las bases de datos MEDLINE y Cochrane.

SÍNTESIS: Un número limitado de informes de casos y series de casos han descrito el uso exitoso de ivermectina en pacientes que no han respondido a otras terapias para la sarna. Ivermectina puede ser una terapia alternativa viable a medida que las infestaciones de sarna resistentes a modalidades tradicionales de tratamiento aumenta.

CONCLUSIONES: Ivermectina aparenta ser una alternativa segura y efectiva para pacientes que padecen de sarna resistente a otros tratamientos tradicionales. Se recomienda que se realicen estudios clínicos controlados a mayor escala antes de ofrecer una recomendación definitiva en cuanto al uso de ivermectina en la población general o como terapia de primera línea.
