DRUG INFORMATION ROUNDS

OBJECTIVO: Evaluar la seguridad y los beneficios cardiovasculares de la terapia con bloqueadores beta en pacientes con enfermedad pulmonar crónica obstructiva.

FUENTES DE INFORMACIÓN: Se identificó literatura clínica a través de MEDLINE. Se incluyeron como términos para la búsqueda enfermedad pulmonar crónica obstructiva y antagonistas beta adrenérgicos.

SÍNTESIS: A pesar del beneficio en la mortalidad cardiovascular, se evita el utilizar los agentes bloqueadores beta en pacientes con enfermedad pulmonar crónica obstructiva por el temor a causar broncoconstricción. Se realizó un resumen de los estudios que evaluaban el uso de beta bloqueadores beta en pacientes con enfermedad pulmonar crónica obstructiva.

CONCLUSIONES: La literatura apoya la seguridad y los beneficios en mortalidad al utilizarse los bloqueadores beta en enfermedad pulmonar crónica obstructiva. Los pacientes con enfermedad pulmonar crónica obstructiva leve a moderada deben recibir bloqueadores beta cardioselectivos cuando existe una indicación contundente.
