AMBULATORY CARE

OBJETIVO: Revisar la literatura sobre los dispositivos utilizados para predecir la ovulación y las pruebas de embarazo de uso doméstico.

FUENTE DE INFORMACIÓN: Los artículos fueron identificados a través de MEDLINE, Embase, y la base de datos International Pharmaceutical Abstracts, utilizando como palabras claves ovulación, detección de la ovulación, prueba de embarazo, kit reactivo diagnóstico, y prueba diagnóstica. Otras referencias fueron localizadas a través de la revisión de la bibliografía citada en los artículos de la búsqueda. No se utilizó ninguna limitación de tiempo, idioma, o tema.

SELECCIÓN DE LOS ESTUDIOS Y EXTRACCIÓN DE LOS DATOS: Se seleccionaron artículos de revisión, capítulos de libros de texto, y estudios experimentales y observacionales sobre el uso doméstico de pruebas de ovulación y embarazo.

RESUMEN DE LOS DATOS: Los estudios han demostrado la eficacia de las pruebas de orina domésticas parar la detección de la ovulación y el embarazo.

CONCLUSIONES: Las pruebas de orina para la predicción de la ovulación y la detección del embarazo disponibles para el uso doméstico permiten a las mujeres y a las parejas tener un papel activo en la planificación familiar. Numerosos productos están disponibles a un coste razonable para las usuarias. Las pruebas de ovulación detectan la presencia de la hormona luteinizante sola (HL) o la HL y la estrona-3-glucuronido, mientras que las pruebas de embarazo detectan la presencia de gonadotrofina coriónica humana.
