DRUG INFORMATION ROUNDS

OBJETIVO: Determinar el potencial de nefrotoxicidad relativo de los inhibidores de la COX-2.

FUENTES DE INFORMACIÓN: Se identificaron pruebas clínicas que evaluaron la nefrotoxicidad de los inhibidores de la COX-2 contra los AINE tradicionales mediante una búsqueda en MEDLINE (1966–junio 2003). Los términos clave de búsqueda incluyeron inhibidores de la ciclooxigenasa, agentes antiinflamatorios no esteroidales, nefrotoxicidad, e inducido químicamente.

SÍNTESIS: Los datos de los resultados obtenidos de los pocos estudios publicados son equívocos. Existen varias limitaciones de metodología.

CONCLUSIONES: Los inhibidores de la COX-2 puede que no ofrezcan ventajas distintas de los AINE no selectivos con respecto a la función renal. Se requieren pruebas de mayor duración en pacientes que tengan comorbilidades. Estos agentes deben usarse con cautela o no utilizarse en pacientes con condiciones que predispongan al paciente a sufrir algún daño.
