DRUG INFORMATION ROUNDS

OBJETIVO: Evaluar el uso de una dosis baja de granisetrón en el tratamiento profiláctico de las nauseas y vómitos postoperatorios (NVPO).

FUENTES DE INFORMACIÓN: Se identificó estudios clínicos por medio de búsquedas en PubMed y OVID (1966–julio 2003); también se repasó información proveída por el manufacturero.

SÍNTESIS DE DATOS: La preocupación con la seguridad asociada a droperidol y a la disponibilidad limitada de otros agentes ha creado una necesidad en la reestructuración de las guiás profilácticas para las NVPO. Se ha propuesto recientemente que el granisetrón puede ser eficaz en una dosis que sea un décimo de la dosis que fue aprobada por el FDA. Se evalúa la evidencia conflictiva para este régimen en este reporte.

CONCLUSIONES: De acuerdo con la escasez de datos de apoyo, este régimen no se recomienda para la profilaxis de las NVPO en pacientes en riesgo para las NVPO.
