OBJETIVO: Documentar el efecto del bupropion en una paciente con depresió n inducida por interferó n y revisar el uso de los antidepresivos para el tratamiento de los síntomas depresivos asociados a la terapia con interferó n.

RESUMEN DEL CASO: Una mujer de 43 años con hepatitis C cró nica y una depresió n severa inducida por interferó n fue tratada con bupropion deliberació n retardada. Durante el tratamiento con interferó n, la paciente manifestó una mejoría importante en los síntomas depresivos, en ausencia de efectos secundarios.

DISCUSIÓN: Existe una evidencia limitada que sugiere que el interferon disminuye la transmisió n central serotoninérgica. Existen diversos estudios publicados sobre el uso de inhibidores selectivos de la recaptació n de serotonina para el tratamiento de la depresió n inducida por interferó n. Sin embargo, son necesarios estudios controlados para comprobar la eficacia de los antidepresivos serotoninérgicos y noradrenérgicos en los pacientes con síntomas depresivos tratados con interferó n.

CONCLUSIONES: El bupropion de liberació n retardada puede ser potencialmente beneficioso en pacientes con depresió n inducida por interferó n.
