DRUG INFORMATION ROUNDS

OBJETIVO: Evaluar la literatura describiendo el uso de inhibidores selectivos de la recaptación de serotonina (SSRIs) en el tratamiento de las discapacidades funcionales asociadas con el autismo.

FUENTES DE INFORMACIÓN: Se realizaron búsquedas utilizando los sistemas EMBASE (de 1980 hasta el tercer quarto de 2003), International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (de 1970 hasta agosto 2003), y MEDLINE (de 1966 hasta agosto 2003).

SÍNTESIS: Se evaluó la literatura para identificar resultados con el uso de SSRIs en el tratamiento de las discapacidades funcionales asociadas con el autismo.

CONCLUSIONES: Aunque la información es muy limitada, se han observado algunos beneficios con el uso de SSRIs. Resultados con la terapia, al igual que los efectos adversos, son individualizados. La evidencia del momento no apoya la selección de un SSRI sobre otro para ninguno de las discapacidades asociadas con el autismo.
