DRUG INFORMATION ROUNDS

OBJETIVO: Evaluar la literatura científica relacionada con resultados falsos-positivos en la pruebas de escrutinio de opioides en la orina y el uso de fluoroquinolonas.

FUENTES DE DATOS: Se identificaron artículos de la literatura científica utilizando las bases de datos MEDLINE para el período comprendido entre 1966 y febrero de 2004, EMBASE, y las revisiones de EMB que contenían los términos quinolones, substance abuse detection, opiates, cross reactions, false-positive reactions, y cada una de las fluoroquinolonas de manera individual. También se evaluaron artículos de referencia.

SÍNTESIS DE DATOS: Se evaluaron 2 estudios clínicos que demostraron que algunas fluoroquinolonas reaccionan con algunos de los ensayos utilizados en el escrutinio para detectar presencia de opioides en la orina.

CONCLUSIONES: Las fluoroquinolonas pueden ser causa de resultados falsos-positivos en las prueban que se utilizan como escrutinio para la presencia de opioides en la orina. Es importante que los proveedores de servicios clínicos sean concientes de que existe esta interacción y que quizás tengan que verificar los resultados positivos.
