NEW DRUG DEVELOPMENTS

OBJETIVO: El análisis de la farmacología, la farmacocinética, los datos de ensayos clínicos, los efectos adversos, y del papel de la insulina detemir en el tratamiento de la diabetes mellitus.

FUENTES DE INFORMACIÓN: Los artículos y los extractos de congresos identificados a través de búsquedas en las bases de datos de MEDLINE (1996 a junio del 2004), de EMBASE (1980 a junio del 2004), y de International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (1970 a junio del 2004), además de información no publicada proporcionada por el fabricante.

SELECCIÓN DE FUENTES Y MÉTODO DE EXTRACCIÓN DE LA INFORMACIÓN: Se seleccionaron todos los estudios disponibles relacionados con la farmacología de la insulina detemir. Sólo los estudios en humanos fueron utilizados para obtener los datos farmacocinéticos, de interacción de fármacos, de eficacia, y de seguridad.

SÍNTESIS: La insulina detemir es un análogo de la insulina basal que ha mostrado mejorar el control glúcemico en pacientes con diabetes tipo 1 y 2.

CONCLUSIONES: La insulina detemir ofrece ciertos beneficios sobre NPH para el uso como insulina basal en pacientes con diabetes tipo 1 y 2.
