DRUG INFORMATION ROUNDS

OBJETIVO: Revisar los efectos del tratamiento con hipolipemiantes sobre el colesterol de baja densidad de partícula pequeña y densa (LBDpd).

FUENTES DE INFORMACIÓN: Se obtuvo literatura científica de la base de datos MEDLINE (1989-septiembre de 2004) y de la bibliografía de los artículos seleccionados. Las palabras clave de búsqueda fueron lipoproteína de baja densidad pequeña y densa e hipolipemiantes.

SÍNTESIS: Las estatinas, los fibratos, y la niacina han demostrado efectos favorables sobre la LBDpd, especialmente entre pacientes con dislipidemia mixta o hipertrigliceridemia. Estos efectos incluyen una reducción en la LBDpd y/o un cambio hacia la lipoproteína de baja densidad más grande y menos aterogénica.

CONCLUSIONES: Los datos indican que las estatinas, los fibratos, y la niacina son eficaces para reducir las concentraciones de la LBDpd y posiblemente para normalizar las subclases de la LBD.
