DRUG INFORMATION ROUNDS

OBJETIVO: Determinar si los inhibidores de glycoproteína (GPI) IIb/IIIa, son efectivos y seguros como terapia adyuvante en intervenciones coronarias percutáneas (PCI), y en pacientes con fallo renal terminal.

FUENTES DE DATOS: Se identificaron artículos de la literatura científica mediante la utilización de las bases de datos de MEDLINE para el período comprendido entre 1966–junio 2004, EMBASE (1980–junio 2004), IPA (1970–junio 2004), y la búsqueda bibliográfica manual.

SÍNTESIS DE DATOS: Aunque la utilidad de los GPI está claramente establecida en las PCI, poco se conoce sobre su uso en pacientes con fallo renal terminal. En base a la escasa información disponible de los registros y de la revisión retrospectiva de los récords de los pacientes, se hace difícil llegar a unas conclusiones definitivas acerca de la utilidad de los GPI en pacientes con fallo renal terminal. La decisión de utilizar abciximab, uno de los agentes de esta clase en pacientes con fallo renal terminal depende de la evaluación individual de cada paciente.

CONCLUSIONES: Se necesita la realización de estudios para evaluar los riesgos versus los beneficios de utilizar los GPI en pacientes con fallo renal terminal.
