DRUG INFORMATION ROUNDS

OBJETIVO: Evaluar la interferencia de la ciclobenzaprina en los ensayos con antidepresivos tricíclicos.

FUENTE DE DATOS: Se realizó una búsqueda en MEDLINE (1966–agosto 2004) utilizando los términos ciclobenzaprina, antidepresivos tricíclicos, toxicología y ensayos.

RESUMEN DE LOS DATOS: La ciclobenzaprina tiene una estructura similar a los antidepresivos tricíclicos y, a menudo, es identificada como un antidepresivo tricíclico en los ensayos toxicológicos. Se presentan los datos disponibles para alertar sobre esta interacción y comparar la capacidad de los ensayos para identificar a la ciclobenzaprina.

CONCLUSIONES: Cuando los ensayos con los antidepresivos tricíclicos son positivos sin que exista historia previa de utilización de estos, debe intentarse identificar otros productos relacionados como la ciclobenzaprina. Las nuevas técnicas bioanalíticas, como la absorción ultravioleta y la espectroscopia de masas, identifican con exactitud a la ciclobezaprina en estas circunstancias.
