Las medidas de calidad en cuidado dirigido permiten a los compradores de cuidado de salud distinguir entre planes de salud. Para dislipidemia, las medidas existentes (siglas para Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set) proveen un retrato limitado de la calidad del cuidado para beneficiarios de planes de salud comerciales. Nueva evidencia (Estudio de Protección del Corazón) y guías de consenso (Programa Nacional de Educación sobre Colesterol) expanden la definición de poblaciones de alto riesgo y hacen énfasis en la farmacoterapia en el manejo de dislipidemia. Creemos que evidencia y estándares más nuevos proveen a los planes médicos mejor oportunidad para evaluar de forma precisa la calidad del cuidado de dislipidemia para sus poblaciones. Proponemos un amplio marco de referencia que provee a los planes médicos guía para el desarrollo de una nueva medida de calidad para dislipidemia que enfoca en la farmacoterapia.
