DRUG INFORMATION ROUNDS

OBJECTIVO: Rivisar los datos procedentes de ensayos clÍnicos para determinar los beneficios del uso del montelukast solo o en terapia combinada para el tratamiento de la urticaria.

FUENTES DE INFORMACIÓN: Se llevó a cabo una búsqueda en MEDLINE (1966-marzo de 2006) y en International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (1970-octubre de 2005) para identificar ensayos clÍnicos sobre el uso del montelukast en la urticaria.

RESUMEN: Se identificaron 6 ensayos clínicos. Se comparó el montelukast solo y en terapia combinada cosn los antihistamínicos H1 no sedantes para determinar la eficacia y la seguridad. Los pacientes tenían urticaria crónica o de origen físico. El tratamiento con montelukast se relacionó con una reducción de los síntomas de la urticaria.

CONCLUSIONES: Se necesitan ensayos clínicos controlados a gran escala para determinar qué pacientes se pudieran beneficiar del tratamiento con montelukast.
