Un Compendio de Servicios de Farmacia en Cuidado Crítico

La unidad de cuidado intensivo (UCI) continúa siendo un foco importante de las actividades descentralizadas de la farmacia en los sistemas de la salud que cuidan pacientes que están críticamente enfermos. Esto no es asombroso dado la necesidad de la toma de decisión rápida en pacientes inestables, el gran número de medicamentos potentes utilizados típicamente en cada paciente, el costo alto de muchos medicamentos utilizados en el UCI, y más importante, la evidencia que demuestra las ventajas de tener un farmacéutico como parte de un equipo interdisciplinario. El propósito de esta publicación es destacar hechos importantes que se deben de considerar al introducir o desarrollar servicios críticos proveídos por la farmacia empezando con el establecimiento de servicios básicos y que continúan con el desarrollo del farmacéutico, desarrollo de guías/protocolos y sus aplicaciones, la seguridad del paciente, el entrenamiento de residencia, e investigación.
