Implicaciones para Farmacia del Informe del Instituto de Medicina sobre la Fuerza Laboral para la Prestación de Servicios de Salud y una América en Envejecimiento

Abstract

El informe del Instituto de Medicina "Retooling for an Aging America: Building the Health Care Workforce" concluyó que la fuerza laboral para la prestación de servicios de salud en los Estados Unidos requerirá una revisión significativa para cuidar de los 70 millones de adultos de 65 años de edad o mayores estimados para el año 2030. Ninguna profesión adiestra el número de especialistas geriátricos necesarios para mantener la presente proporción de proveedor a paciente. La profesión de Farmacia no es una excepción; al presente <1% de los farmacéuticos están certificados o tienen adiestramiento especializado en geriatría. Las Escuelas de Farmacia, las organizaciones acreditadotas y profesionales y las Juntas de Farmacia necesitarán colaborar para asegurar que los farmacéuticos tienen las competencias esenciales para proveer servicios a los adultos mayores.
